BIG WHAKATANE BLOCKS BEACON INVESTIGATES REPORTS It is stated that a block of 1400 acres of partly improved swamp land at the White Pine Bush, near Whakatane West, has been purchased by the Native Lands Development Department l'or settling local Maori returned soldiers. Some of the land has already been ploughed. A portion was formerly owned by the Flax Company (since liquidated). Alsoi it is understood that a big block of swamp country between the Eastern and Western drains near Paroa is under offer toi the Government for the same purpose. These areas are the only pieces of land not already closely settled on Eastern Rangitaiki Plains.
