CANINE STATUS
COLLAR SHORTAGE PROBLEM
CERTIFICATES MAY BE ISSUED In view, of the usual dog collars whicli arc issued annually by way of a receipt for the payment of a dog tax, local canines are 1 likely this year to be issued with certificates as a Avar measure. This enlightening information was discussed at the meeting of the Borough Council last Monday evening when the Internal Affairs Department intimated that in view of the shortage of dog collars, and the impossibility of procuring suitable, leather, it was prepared to recognise certificates which could be sold At. the 1 usual fee. The dog could continue to wear last year's" collar which would lie regarded as a sign of registration for the current year. Should the council decide to utilise the- new scheme it would be necessary to advertise its intention and prepare the certificates. The Mayor stated that the council had already placed its order last August but so far the collars had not come hand. The clerk had written making enquiries and in the event of their not being available it Avoukl be necessary to proceed with the issue of certificates.
