ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
IN EVENT OF FAILURE ALTERNATIVE PLANS SUGGESTED The Electricity Controller, writing the Borough Council suggested 1 that while it was not intended to spread alarm in any way, there was always the possibility of the electrical supplybeing cut off through; enemy action. He asked in view of this, that the Council take steps to plan an alternative scheme which would enable the community to carry on in spite of this disability. An outline of the proposed scheme was asked for. The Mayor said that he had asked the engineer to go into the matter and prepare a report. In his own opinion however lie did not think much could be done in the event of a 100 per cent breakdown. Cr Shapley observed that it was unfortunate the old generating plant at the Hcadworks liacl been dismantled. It would have been an excellent standby now. He suggested liowcvct that there might be some possibility of linking the town up with the Paper Mills, if there was sufficient current generated at that plant.
