WHAKA'S CLIFFS
SOME ODD FORMATIONS BUSINESSMAN'S OBSERVATIONS Light and shadow on the rocky hillside, below which nestles the shopping district of Whakatanc can convert the weathered rock into fantastic shapes—statuary in stone. So at least it appears to those whose gaze of necessity often is directed to the natural ramparts of the town. One such is Mr W. R. Sloane, who for upwards of thirty years has locked out of his surgery windows in the Civic Buildings at the steep hillside. He has picked out rocks like a women's face, lion's head and so on. The formations provide an engossing subject for anyone witli a little imagination and the number of likenesses is quite remarkable. There may be others who have also taken up the same hobby. If so it would be of interest to hear of their respective discoveries.
