CONSCIENCE APPEALS
HAMILTON-PAERQA AREAS DETAILS TO LAST JULY A return showing the number ol appeals on conscientious grounds against service with the armed forces overseas and with the territorial force up to July last was tabled in the House of Representatives. Appeals for the Dominion totalled 2045. In the Hamilton and Paeroa districts 311 appeals were-lodged, 131 being against overseas service and 127 against territorial service. The appeal boards determined 218 cases, and decisions Ave re as follows: Dismissed outright, 01; dismissed subject to non-combatant ser\'ice. 51; alloAvcd, 26; adjourned on other grounds or pending further evidence. 11; adjourned because of medical unfitness, 22; struck out (permanently unfit or dismissed for lack of prosecution, 32; withdrawn, 15.
