HEADMASTER'S DEPARTURE
Sir, In all the towns in which I have lived, I have not experienced one instance of so much pliblic indifference to the departure of a headmaster, as that shown by the people of Whakatane. I understnd that Mr Southey taught here for 10 years. Hundreds of the town's citizens must therefore have passed through his hands, and should all the rules feel a little indebted j to their old 'head.' Why there was not a public gesture, to mark Mr Southev's leaving is, I think sir, something which reflects the spirit of Whakatane in a very poor way. Yours etc.. NEW ARRIVAL.
