WHAKATANEANS MEET IN SCOTLAND
EXPERIENCE OF SGT. PILOT
COUTTS
Once again illustrating that the world is a small place an experience is related by Sgt. Pilot Andrew Coutts in a letter to liis parents, Mr and Mrs P. Coutts, of Whakatane. Sgt. Pilot Coutts writes that he was looking in a shop window in
Edinburgh, Scotland, when a man approached him with the remark, "What part of New Zealand do you come from?"
"Andy" replied tlmL lie came from Whakatane, and the man then asked if lie remembered him. The airman stated that he recognised the face but was in doubt as to the name, and then his memory served him better and lie remarked "Yes you are Dr King who used to be with Di Appleby about four years ago."
In the subsequent conversation Sgt Pilot Coutts learned that Dr King had l)cei) in South Africa after leaA'ing Acw Zealand and had spent about 12 months there. He had then gone to Scotland Avherc lie Avas engaged in anti-sabotage Avork for some time. At present lie is teaching student doctors, in a medical college. Earlier in the Avar Dr King endeavoured to join the R.A.F. but Avas not permitted to do so being instructed to follow his profession.
