VERY DRY TWO MONTHS

With two months of the year past only 1.54 inches of rain have been recorded in Whakatane in comparison with 10.93 inches for the same period last year, according to the observations of Mr H. Muscutt, King Street. Rain fell on seven days of February to register .72 inches.
February of last year was also dry the amount being .75 inches, but a heavy fall had occurrcd in January to re 1 : the dry spell, and production better chance than this year has afforded. The driest February experienced was in 1939 when only .05 inches fell while the heaviest was in 1934 when 11.91 inches were tallied on the gunge.

ONE HEAVY FALL RECORDED
Mr Andrew McLean reveals that in comparison with last year the Plains have suffered a dry first two months of the year. The total to. date is 2.31 inches as against -12.2;> For the same period last year.
Rain fell on eight days of February to total 1.T)7 inches, this being mainly due to a fall on the 20th when with heavy rain and hail the guage registered 1.04 inches. In February of 1941 the fall "was .9(5 inches.
