Novel air raid shelters have been constructed by a Mosgiel resident. He has sunk into the ground a number of discarded beer barrels, one for each member of the family. The lids of the barrel act as covers and are on ground level. lin the event of emergency, all that is necessaryis to lift the lid and jump into the barrels, and the lid can then be replaced. Ragwort Eradication At Tuesday's meeting*of the County Council the Department of Agriculture wrote in reply to the council's letter of 26th January in which application was made for a further allocation of £600 for ragwort eradication.
