WATCH FOR IT!
COMPLETE BLACKOUT TRIAL EVENING DURING WEEK-END Whakatane residents arc reminded that the first 'blackout' test will be applied over the coming week-end. No indication will be giiven of the hour of the trial, but it will be made 1 effective at some time during one of the evenings between Friday (toi-d'ay) and Monday next (both days inclusive). Briefly, the conditions during the trial will be such that no light or glare, which would indicate the locality of the Borough to air raiders, will be visible. The alert will be given by the sounding of the fire sirens-, rising (10 seconds) and falling (5 seconds) for 2 minutes and the "all clear" (continuous blast for 2 minutes) will be sounded at the conclusion of the trial. Occupiers have been advised of their obligation to provide at least one room completely blacked! out for use d'uring an emergency, and on the occasion of thils trial it will be necessary "that this accommodation be used. Noi outside lighting whatsoever is permissible, and regulations respecting the use of nro|or vehicles ini an emergency have been gi'ven publicity., Street lights wiill be extinguished coincident with the sounding of the alert. A special appeal is miade to all householders to co-operate to the utmos't in observing the instructions carefully and thoroughly, thereby assisting towards the complete success of the test.
