PATRIOTIC APPEALS
INTERFERENCE WITH EFFORTS DOMINION WIDE CAMPAIGNS DISAPPROVED The Zone K Patriotic Committee, which sat at Whakatanc this week, supported a recommendation received from a country district that, while an appeal was in progress with each area endeavouring to raise its quota, no Dominion-wide appeals be instituted. The suggestion arose from the fact that at Christmas an appeal was made over the air to which donations were made, while at the same time local committees were struggling to provide an increased quota of funds. It was stated that the quotas to he obtained by Whakatane and Opotiki counties had been increased and every effort would have to be made to find the funds. All members were confident that the general public would rise to the occasion, but at the same time felt that if Dominion appeals were made some of the funds would be sent in making the task more difficult. One speaker also stated that an added difficulty was presented by such appeals in. that some people—• those who avoided doing their part —used them as an excuse by stating when approached that they had given to the Dominion appeal. It was stated that the Dominion Council had already announced that such appeals would not be made except on special pecasions, but the committee decided to forward the recommendation to the Auckland Provincial Council.
