BOROUGH JUBILEE
CELEBRATIONS CONSIDERED UNNECESSARY A subject for discussion at "this week's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was the forthcoming Borough Jubilee, which falls in September. When suggestions were asked for Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., opposed celebrations being held stating that in the present times such activities should be foregone. "Let us "have 1 a combined event when; peace comes and then we will make a 30b of it," he said addr* : ing that to make a "decent •show" expenditure of about £500 would be needed'. Oh his motion seconded by Mr T. A. Bridger it was decided that the '••Chamber, recommend 1 that the celebrations be deferred until after the war.
