ABSENTEE SECTION OWNERS AT OHOPE
THE recent scrub and lupin fire at Ohope, was an obvious illustration of the fire danger from neglected and overgrown sections. Had not a favourable change of wind diverted the flames, there is little doubt but that many of the shacks on the eastern end would have been destroyed. There is at present on these properties a lot of standing growth which is a continual menace as far as fire is concerned. They are neglected from one years end to the other,, the owners being absentees whose interest in the beach is purely speculative. As a fire in any of these properties would present a definite danger to the surrounding houses, •we feel that there should be some regulation, enforcing their reasonable clearing.
