PATRIOTIC APPEAL

TANEATUA AND OPOURIAO

"OUTLOOK GLO^LY"

Facing a large increase in their quota for the General Purposes Appeal the Taneatua and Opouriao districts are about to make a drive for funds so that their obligations will be met. The president, Mr A. F. McGougan, and the secretary, Mr li. G. Alexander, have issued a statement reading as follows: — To the Public of Taneatua and Opouriao. The Taneatua District Quota for the General Purposes Fund of the Patriotic Council for 1942 is £1110. Last j'ear it was £450. The outlook is gloomy, but wc are prepared to face the matter and endeavour to do our part with jour co-operation. Do you know that the following organisations are financed by the Patriotic Fund Board: —Y.M.C.A., Church Army, Salvation Army, Navy League, War Council, Catholic War Services Fund Board, Air Force Relations and other Welfare Organisations associated with the New Zealand Forces.

The National Patriotic Funds Board supply sports equipment and cinema apparatus for our Forces here and Overseas and most important of all, 80 per cent of funds collected are set aside for Rehabilitation purposes. The cost of Red Cross parcels sent weekly to Prisoners of War is borne by this Board also. So far we are fortunate in not having the common enemy either battering at our door or in our midst. Our New Zealand Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen are endeavouring to maintain our safety. Many have already made the supreme sacrifice, thousands are spending the best years of their young lives in prison camps away from their loved ones or in the heat and sand of the Middle East. Are we at home fulfilling our obligations? Unfortunately there are some amongst us who qre shirking their responsibilities. We are hoping to raise a goodlv part of our quota by a house to house canvas. Will you please do your best when our canvasser calls shorty after you receive this communication. The completed list will be posted up in the Patriotic Shop.
