PETROL RATION

SOME CONFUSION LOCALLY

NO PLEASURE RUNNING

Although the position was clearly outlined by the Minister recently there appears to have arisen some confusion regarding the increased 1 petrol ration which: is shortly to come into operation. The main point is that there hlas definitely been no notification received by the local controller regarding coupons and 1 pleasure running will stil'l be barred completely. Business cars which had- licenses and which were ail cancelled will be reinstated to the extent of 25 per cent of the licence held. Cars which had been used in lieu of trucks, were not included in the business car category and in the December cuts were allowed to retain 50 per cent of their original allowance. A 50 per cent reinstatement of the latest cut will come into force which will find these vehicles allowed 75 per cent of the original licence. Taxis working en a single shift such as those in Whakatane and which were cut back to 75 per cent will be in future permitted their full allowance which was operating before. In the case of local bodies 50 per cent of the recent cuts will be allowed bringing the total allowance to 75 per cent of the original liccnco.
