HOME GUARDSMEN FOR CAMP

"A" COMPANY GATHERS

A Coy of the WJiakatane Home Guard met at the Winter Show Buildings on Saturday night to bid farewell to four members avlio are shortly to enter camp, and an enjoyable evening was spent in the honouring of a short toast list Avliicli was interspersed with musical items.

Lieut. C. S. Armstrong was in the chair and the following toasts were honoured: The King; Commanding Officer proposed by Capt. R. C. Wilson and responded to by Major R. C. Wilson; Those who< paid the supreme sacrifice in the lighting forces, proposed by the chairman and honoured in silence; Fighting Services and Nursing Sisters, proposed by Mr L. Rayner and replied to by Mr Carling; The Home Guard, proposed by Capt. C. li. Brebner and replied to by Mr G. Otle.y; The Honoured Guests, pronosed by the chairman and responded to by Sgts Musscti and Lynden and Guardsmen Carter and Powell; W.W.S.A., proposed by Mr Mollgaard, reply by Mr AVhitworth; The Visitors, proposed by Mr F. Woods, reply by Air Littlejohn; Company Commander, proposed by Mr R. Spong, reply by Capt Wilson; The Press, proposed by Mr R. Morpeth, reply by Mr S. S. Powell.

During the evening Major C. R. Wilson presented each guest with a gift from the Comjjany.
