RUBBISH DEPOSITS
BOROUGH COUNCIL S PROBLEM
COMPLAINTS REG AUDI XG HARBOUR
j When a complaint was receiv- | ed from the Health Inspector at | Monday's meeting of the Borough Council regarding the amount of rubbish deposited on the waterside, the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry, asked! the clerk to read correspondence with the Harbour Board. This revealed that the Board had been asked to enforce the ruling that rubbish should not be s'o deposited. His Worship added that the Board had not carried out what it had said it would do and should bc*asked again to enforce the requirements of the department and the council. Cr S. S. Shapley said that the Harbour Bhard appeared to think the responsibility was the council's and supported the Mayor's suggestion. He -added that the council had done all it cc.uld and the service it had instituted had met with a poor response from tenants.^ To Cr C. W. Good the Mayor said that all occupiers concerned had been circularised to the effect that a rubbish collection would be made for a small fee, and only very few had availed themselves of the service. It was decided that the Harbour Board be asked to force tenants to observe the ruling. Quarterly Collection Stating that the council's petrol licence had been cut down one-third the Mayor introduced the question of the quarterly refuse collection. One was due and he thought it should be continued as people did not have petrol to carry refuse themselves. His suggestion was adopted.
