AIR-RAID SHELTER

Sir,—l want to throw out a suggestion to the people that live out Awakeri way. That is put a tunnel in that pumice bluff at the back of the store. Then in case of an air raid they would be 100 per cent safe. The tunnel could be used after the war by the counci; for a benzine store. A tunnel six feet high three feet six inches at .the top and four feet six inches at the bottom all these measurements to be in the clear. This could be for £75 a hundred feet or £20 p'elhundrcd feet if they do,the job themselves as the timber would not cost more than £20 and some of the tunnel might not require timbering as pumice as a rule can be arched and will stand without timber. I am willing to start the tunnel free of cost should they decide to do the job. Yours etc., OSWALD PARK, Consulting Mining Expert, Paper Mills, Wliakatane.
