MEAT PRODUCTION

KILLINGS TO MID-JANUARY The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from Ist October till January 17th, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, show that lamb killings to that date have reached a total of 3,914,513 carcases, this being an increase of 352,410 carcases over the killings to Januaj-y 18 last season. Wether mutton®killings are 152,188 carcases, and Ave mutton killings 111,930 carcases, comjDared with 49,363 and 70,024 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and the South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows- — North- Island Lamb 2,611,139 (2,502,951) Wether mutton 145,308 ( 45,919) Ewe mutton 74,314 ( 63,630) South Island: Lamb 1,303,374 (1,059,152) Wether mutton 6,880 ( 3,441) Ewe mutton 37,616 ( 6,394) Frozen beef production is now 48,914 quarters compared with 58,711 quarters last season. Porker killings total 40,972 carcases, an increase of 29,630, whilst baconers total 129,290 carcases, a decrease of 24,418.
