Empty Water Tanks The dry spell which' Whakatawe district has been experiencing has been causing much inconvenience to householders that depend on tank water. Scores of such households have empty tanks, and are obliged, to. carry water from neighbours who have more adequate supplies of water. On most farms the well water pumped for cattle is not suitable for human consumption. Gift to Army One sporting rifle received at King Edward Barracks, Ghristchurch, an almost new weapon which had had practically no use, was given to the Army (states the Ghristchurch Press). The man who brought it in explained that it had belonged to his son, who had been killed in action. He would accept no payment for it. In another case the Army personnel engaged in receiving the rifles thought t only right to pay fotr one brought in by a widow whose husabnd had been killed on active service.
