SCHOOL TRENCHES
CONFIRMATION OF DECISION NOT CONSIDERED. NECESSARY The secretary of the local School Committee, Mr C. W. Good, has received' the following letter from the Auckland Education: Board's Secretary in reply to his enquiry for permission to authorise the Borough Counciil to provide air raid trenches at the local school:— "Confirming the telephone message and in answer to your letter of the 17th inst I have to inform you thiat it is not considered! necessary that air raid 1 trenches w or shelters be provided 1 at schools except .in a few defined areas at which Whakatane ijs not one. "The Board has been informed that the whole question of the protection of school children is undter the conSideratioin of the Government, and that a p,ublic lannouncement will be made on the subject this week."
