MAY VOLUNTEER IN TERRITORIALS SOME CONFUSION LOCALLY Siince the introduction of conscription by the Government as iai means of buiilding up the New Zealand 1 Army, many men of "overseas age" have been under the impression that voluntary enlistment was not possible in the Army with the exception of the Maori Battalion. Thils. however, is not so and married men, as well as single men may serve in the Territorials as well as in the National Military Reserve andl Home Guard, providing they are in the following categories. The following information has been received from Captain J. R. Murray, of the Paeroa Military District. 1. Single men between the ages of 19 and 45, who volunteered for service in either the Territorial Force or 2nd' N.Z.E.F. jirior to 22/7/40. Grades I.A. and 11. 2. Married men between the ages of 19 and 45, with noit more than three dependent children under IG. Grades I, I.A. and 11. N.B. Married men means (a) Mien who were married before the Ist May, 1940 and also (b) Men married since 1/5/40, provided that a child of such marriage has been born. Army j)ay for a private is 7/- per day of which 5/- may be allotted to wife. The wife's allowance is 4/pcr day plus 1/G for each child under 16.
