THRILLS OF MAGIC

"The Thief of Bagdad" abounds in scenes unwinding breath-taking magic—magic which transforms

stony desert into an Enchanted City; a Flying Horse which ilies into the clouds and returns to the spot Avhence it took oif; a Djinni, Avho is released from a tiny bottle, and becomes as high as the highest mountain and towers over the city of Bagdad; the Black Galleon, a mystery ship sailed by a wicked magician; the Flying Carpet, which goes

from city to city like an airplane; the All-Seeing Eye, a -ruby stolen from a Giant Goddess, which gives its owner power to see whatever he wishes to sec, no matter how for away. All the glories of the one thousand and one nights:—their romance, their magic, their wonder

have been woven into the most exciting motion picture, in glorious technicolour, the screen has ever seen. The picture is being released by United Artists.

Abbott and Costello, those screamingly funny fellows who won screen stardom through their work in Univcrsal's hit laugh film, "Buck Privates,'" are back on the screen in a new comedy titled Abbott and Costello and Dick Powell "in the Navy." This latest feature in Universal's scries built around the various.units of Uncle Sam's military service is said to surpass "Buck Privates," box office record-breaker. In leading featured roles are such outstandng players as the three Andrews Sisters—Patty, Maxene and LaVerne, Claire Dodd, Dick Foran, Butch and Buddy, Shemp Howard and the Condos Brothers. The picturc was directed by Arthur Lubin, who so successfully filled a similar assignment in "Buck Privates." Alex Gottlieb, associate producer on the latter production, did a repeat on the Navy film.
