LIGHTS ABLAZE
BREACH OF BLACKOUT
DISGRACEFUL" SAYS CR. CUMMINGS
"I noticed the other night that all the lights at the convenience at the wharf were ablaze—why?" queried Cr T. J. Gumimings at this month's Borough Council meeting. He continued that lights were issuing a blaze of light from the Rest Room and again asked the reason why. "And again what about the Winter Show Building—last Thursday it was a disgrace with every light, showing. Who is responsible for this?" he added.
It was stated that the Home Guard was using the building on that night and Cr A. J. Canning said that the Home Guard had been tokl that the blackout must be observed. The Association was allowing free use of the hall. Cr Cummings: "Well the Home Guard should lie ashamed of itself!" Cr Mulholland defended the Guard stating that it was not its responsibility to black out the hall. Cr Canning stated that the Association had put blinds up and these
had been torn doAvn by people using the hall. During the discussion it was mentioned that in some areas the blackout was well observed while in others flagrant breaches were noticeable. Hillcrcst was quoted as an area where many lights were showing at night. It was decided that the action be taken to have the regulations more closely observed.
