BOBBY CALVES
RETURNS FOR SEASON SKIN MARKET HIGHER The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Ltd. report that for the bobby calf season ending November 30th last it had on behalf of the Calf Pool Committees marked 303,000 calves. This is within a few hundred of the figure reached last year and on the national decline in killings represents an increase in pool calves handled. These calves it is stated were collected from 63 Pools spread throughout the North and South Islands. The company's accounts disclose a nett surplus for distribution of £120,724, oT which £47,44!) by . way of advance was paid out in September last on calves handled to August 31 . The balance, or £79,274, being the • amount still available for final payment, is now being distributed. The report states further that the export market for skins this season had been substantially higher than | that experienced last year, which would account for the payout to producers being little less than that for last season, and this in spite of the loss occasioned by the embargo on the export of the boned veal.
