' Mrs H. Cordery, Christchurcli, is ; the guest of Mr and Mrs O. T. Rogers, Union Bank, Taneatua. Mrs J. W. Wilson, of SoutarS Avenue, has returned home after spending a brief holiday with friends in Manawahe. Mr and Mrs F. Gartshore and family of Lovelock Street are holidaying at Ohope Beach. Pilot Officer David Brown whose death was announced over the Christmas holidays as the result of an accident overseas was well' known in Whakatane, having resided in Merritt Street with his family fo<r many years prior to their moving to Auckland.
It is with extreme regret that we record the death in. action of Pte Robert O. Stewart, notice to that effect having been received by his parents, Mr and! Mrs A. O. Stewart, the Pa, last evening. Pte sfewgrt wias a particularly popular young man, and was a.member of the BEACON staff for two years prior to his enlistment. His elder brother Lieut Horton Stewart fell ear£ie(r in the year Hn Crete, ' while another brother Lieut Doa Stewart was wounded in the present Libyan campaign. The deepest sympathy will be felt for his family.
