CONSTRUCTION AT OHOPE
COST OVER £600
A statement of accounts relative to the construction cost of the Ohope Lcarn-to-Swim pool, sponsored two years ago by Mr F. Mahy, and recently brought to a successful conclusion, has been handed to us for publication. The total cost of the bath was £507, but Avith the addition of the material donated plus the approximate cost of the lree labour another £13(5 must be included bringing the gross total to £643. There is still further work required such as reinforcing the dam, and the painting of the surrounding, wall with green creosote. It is hoped however that this will be forthcoming. Materials Donated: Wilson's Cement Co (1 ton cement) £6 10s f County Council, timber for dam £15, John Burns and Co, 2 inch valves (inil fittings £1, H.E.Mi. two 2 inch stop cocks 255, 1 4 inch valve 355, 1 2 inch tee, elbows and bend 20s, 3 J inch nipples 4s 6d, P.W. 1 2 inch valve and bend 255, Cutlers Hardware 1 2 inch toe, bolts and 18 incli tee hinges 20s, Farmers' Trading Co (wo yard brooms 25s and door fastener and lock ss, B.S.L. % cwt 2V 2 inch nails and % cwt 4 inch nails 30s, R. Fraser 5 gallons of green creosote £2 10s-, Tunnicli.ffe's mill timber tor seating in dressing sheds £2 ss. Total £39 17s. Service and free labour (approx) survey and excavating of site £20. Northern S.S. Co free freight on 'IVa tons piping, £3 15s, Harboui Board free wharfage Bs, P. Fen ton rebate of timber £21 Is, H.E.M. cartage of piping 20s, B. making of turn-key 15s, H. C. Kennedy cartage of timber 10s, voluntary workers on dam £6, excavating oi pipeline, laying and fitting £15, S.A.M. use of truck and three men for filling in sides of pool; £5 10s County Council sand for filling £1 10s, labour for spreading sand, clay etc. and filling £7 10s, creosotinE bottoms of posts, erecting fence ant dressing sheds £15, donation of 8 IS inch bolts 12s, Total £98 lis.
Payments B.S.L. cost of construction of concrete work only £445, P. Fenton Tor timber for fence and dressing sheds £18 10s, 1200 ft of two-inch piping from Waiuku £42, turn-key for 2"inch stop cocks 10s 6d, 141'bs leadheads 7s, 2 gallons creasote Bs, P. Wells work on dam 15s. Total £507 10s 6d. The total cash contributions come to £282 18s 6d, thusi leaving a debit of £224 12s. An effort will be made to meet this outstanding amount during the present holiday season and we feel that all who now view the finished work will contribute willingly ami liberally in view of its value and utility from a potential life l saving point of view.
