WAIMANA ACTIVITIES

FIRST AID CERTIFICATES PRESENTED f On Friday evening the members of the First Aid class of the Waimana branch- of the W.W.S.A. gathered together at the school to receive their First Aid certifiates. Mr J. L. Burnett, Chief Controller of the E.P.S., addressed the members on their probable duties in an emergency and stressed the fact , that the W.W.S.A. was a very important part of the E.P.S. and he felt that all over the county the women would prove this worth in a time of need. He also congratulated the class on their 100 per cent. pass in the examination and the high standard of this work. Mr A. Carling Deputy Controller, who was mainly responsible for the tuition of the First Aid class by coming out each week during the winter to hold classes, also spoke of the -work which would be expected of the members of the class in the event of an emergency arising out \ £ of the present situation and expressed as his opinion that they would all work together and. do their job, whatever it might be. He stated he was veiV proud of this class, his first, as the ,standard of work in the examination was exceptionally high.

After the certificates were presented by Mr Carling, the members served a delicious supper which was en- > joyed by all. Mrs H. Wardlaw, leader of the W.W.S.A., expressed thanks on behalf of the members for the interest taken by Mr Carling in the class and said the feeling of all members was that their success was due to him. Those present included Mesdames Burnett, Carling, N. Wardlaw, C. Wykle, M. Wardlaw, Henderson, Black, A. Addison, White, Mannion, E. Bell, Hewitt, Miarra, Fleming, Woolfield. Misses S. Grover, B. Wragge, F. Woolfield, F. Gallag-r her.
