EASING UP SLIGHTLY
MANY of those who at first were deprived of every drop of petrol have had the satisfaction since, of drawing a certain percentage of their original license allowance. It is quite apparent from this that the Government after becoming seized with the constricting nature of the sudden 'closedown' hastily decided that it was necessary to loosen up in order to preserve industry and maintain at least to some extent the ordinary functions of commerce. We have learnt moreover that all farmers will be permitted sufficient petrol to make a weekly visit to town, while those whose actual livelihood is in danger of being lost have the right to appeal. The news is welcome, and, it will bring a sigh of relief to those who had begun to vision a shoppingless Christmas and a complete strangulation of trade.
