ROAD FOR EMERGENCY
USE FOR ACCESS OR KXIT
At Tuesday's meeting of the County Council the County Clerk reported that when returning from a conference in Galatea with the proprietors of Rangitaiki Development Co., Ltd., he» had traversed the Te Teko-Fort Galatea Road. From Te Teko to the Whakatane Paper Mills homestead, the road was in good condition as a result of constant planing. From the Whakatane Paper Mills homestead southward to the boundary of the Whakatane Paper Mills property, 9% miles,, the Company at its own expense was at present engaged in grading the" road. The balance of the road southward 6V 2 to 7 miles, to junction Kopuriki Murupara Road was in reasonable condition. It would appear desirable, in vieAV of the present emergency for arrangements to be made for the keeping of this road planed, and it would also appear that the matter of installing some culvert's should receive consideration.
Members agreed that in the event of an emergency the road Avould probably be needed for use by the Army or by evacuees and agreed that the chairman, Cr T. G. H. Gawte and the enginer make an inspection with a view to finding the cost likely to be involved
