BRIDGE SAFE

STRUCTURE AT TANEATUA

LOADING AND SPEED

RESTRICTED

Further to a report that the Waimana River Bridge ait Taneatua was in a dangerous condition, an inspection was made. There is nothing to show that the condition of the 1 brid'ge has deteriorated since it was last

repaired l and warning notices erected. The question of the reconstruction of this bridge, which would be a major undertaking, should 1 be' kept in view.

The present structure appears safe as long as the loading and speed restrictions are adhered to, but as tlie Council will appreciate, it is impossible for an engineer to guarantee a structure of this description Tor a specified period. Thus reported Mr R. O. Tomkins, acting-county engineer at yesterdaj r 's meeting.
