MATCHES WITH WAIMANA, Recently a Waimana team visited Opotiki. Originally the match was scheduled lor a Dun lop Shield match, but this competition has been abandoned this season due to war conditions. Very evenly contested games were the order of the day and Waimana and Opo«tiki Avon 12 matches each. Upon a count of individual games being made, Waimana turned out winners by 164 games to 158. Ividd beat Hughes and Mrs Scott 9/6. Men's Doubles Blcor and Fox lost to Bell' and J. Wardlaw 7/9; Black and Cole lost to Jerram and T. WardlaAv 4/9; Thompson and Delamere beat Hughes and Grover 9/7. Ladies' Doubles Mrs Black and Mrs Vanstone lost to Mrs King and Mrs Ruff 6/7; Mrs Parkinson and Miss Thornton lost to Miss W T oolfield and Mlrs AVardlaw (3/7; Miss Jephson and Miss Kidd lost to' Miss GroA r er and Mrs Scott 2/7. In the handicap championship the committee would like the players to help to get their matches off during the week, so as to have the championship over before Christmas.
