EXTRA £5
MONEY FOR TROOPS CHRISTMAS CONCESSION An announcement that the Government has agreed to permit a Christmas remittance of an additional £5 (New Zealand currency) to members of tlic armed forces .serving overseas was made by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash. "In order to> conserve sterling funds overseas," said Mr Nash, "it was necessary to restrict the sending of moneys to an individual soldier, sailor or airman to £30 in each, year. The additional amount now authorised is for the-purpose of enabling relatives if they so desire to make a special Christmas remittance this year. Moneys must be in hand for transmission not later than December 5, otherwise payment before Christmas will be extremely doubtful." The Minister mentioned that one Christmas remittance only to each member of the armed forces was per-
I missible and that separate bank receipts for the sum to be remitted up to the maximum of £5 must be forwarded in accordance with theusual procedure to the transmitting agency, namely, the Director of Base Records, or the Navy or Air Headquarters, Wellington.
