FUNDS MOUNTING
APPEAL FOR FURTHER HELP
With the object the sum of £150 to ensure the working of the branch for the current year, the Whakatane branch of the Plunket Society's new committee is working energetically and has made good progress.
However, further eifort is necessary and during Wednesday night's benefit night at the Regent Theatre His Worship the Mayor appealed for the support of the public.
Mr Barry stated that the committee was grateful for the help already received, £44 having being obtained from the street appeal, £9 from the dance and about £21 from tlie picture screening. The Society was worthy of all the support it could get as splendid and important work was being done.
The Regent was well crowded for the screening of '"Keeping Company" which was acclaimed by all as splendid entertainment. A feature of the event was the attractive decoration of the lounge, where a host of gaj r blooms had been arranged by Mesdames L. Ray nor and F. H. Abbot. Other members of the committee ivere Mesdames J. Riddell, A. Fisher A. Bridger, R. Morpeth, C. King-sley-Smith and C. C. Southey.
