NEW YEAR'S EVE CARNIVAL
Cricket Fixtures The draw for the week-end cricket is as follows: Central v Taneatua at Taneatua; P. and T. v Paroa at Whakatane* Rapid Growth Recent warm showers followed by sunny days have reflected favourably in local kitchen gardens and indications arc that a variety of homegrown fruit and vegetables will grace this year's festive board. Splendid crops of tomatoes are promising according to enthusiasts.
WHAKATANE, after many serious difficulties have been overcome by the committee, appears now to have every chance of holding and enjoying its Carnival at New Year. The event though on a much modified scale than last year's splendid success will it is hoped hold the fort and provide the townspeople with a little gaiety and fun, in spite of the 'black-out' and benzine restrictions. The greatest drawback has been the appointment of a suitable organiser, but this difficulty appears to have been largely overcome and there is every prospect of a children's afternoon session and some organised fun-in-the-street in the evening with the assistance of the Pipe and Boys' Bands and groups of entertainers.
Producer Control At last- Executive meeting of the Auckland Fanners' Union the following resolution, moved by Mr J. Soler, of the Southern King Country, was carried unanimously: "That since all primary products are eonv mandeeretl by the New Zealand Government and then re-sold to the British Government without our interests being directly represented in those transactions, we demand the right to be present in all discussions that decide the prices paid for our products."
