DISTRICT ACTIVITIES SOME EQUIPMENT TO ARRIVE For the first time the local Infantry paraded oil Saturday afternoon and although the attendance was not as large as it should have been interesting training was received. Folr lowing a refresher in work already undergone by most men bayonet fighting instruction was given. This proved popular although in the heat cf the day very strenuous. During the parade Major C. R. Wilson briefly addressed the men stating that an issue of service rifles was to arrive at Whakatane that day. The Infantry, under its new schedule, was tC' have alternated Saturday afternoon and evening parades. However, owing to ap N.C.O's camp being arranged for next weekend, the first evening, parade has been cancelled and training wit! ensue on Saturday afternoon next at the Domain. "" Taneatua Enthusiastic Following a brief halt in parades owing to disease being prevalent in ?tock and farmers being unable to attend the Taneatua Guard has resumed with enthusiasm and parades are being held regularly and the syllabus pursued keenly. Combined Parade Yesterday the Thornton, Matata and Manawalie units paraded ajt Thornton beach in good numbers a variety of exercises being undergone. To suit the farmers the parade! commenced at 11 a.m. and concluded at 2 p.m. the billy being boiled at the Thornton beach.
