AWAKERI INGLESIDE
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S VISIT
WELL, PATRONISED EVENT
Awakeri experienced the pleasures of a Scottish invasion last Monday evening when the local Caledonian Society carried out one of its popular Goodwill Ingleside visits and made the hillsides re-echo to the tune of the pipes, and drums.
The hall was well-filled and it can honestly be said that all present enjoyed themselves to the utmost. The Pipe Band, under Pipe Major Laurie Johnston's control provided several rousing selections and later in the evening carried out the Display March which has won it such a reputation in other parts of the district. Chief W. J. Simons was piped into the hall and warmly received by the cro,wd.
The supper arrangements Avere in the hands of Mesdames Simons, Butler and Quig and the Misses Howats and Cleland. Following the supper interval the drawing of the competition for the 'fat sheep' created an interesting interlude, the winner being Mrs Cleland.
Auld Lang Syne brought a very happy and enjoyable evening to a close, and there are many Awakeri residents who are already approaching the Society to stage a second visit in the near future.
