INTERESTING DAY'S TRAINING
For the first time the Infantry of the Whakatane Home Guard spent a full day on parade at Ohope' the base for operations being at the cami? established there, and from 9.30 a.m. until 4 p.m. an interesting and instructive programme of training was gone through.
Brief instruction in rifle exercises, rifle-fire positions and machine-gun mechanism occupied the morning, while in the afternoon manoeuvres took place in the country between Ohope and Ohiwa. Captain G. H. Brebner, Area Commander C. R. Wilson and Staff Sgt. Major Blair watched the manoeuvres and at the conclusion Captain Brebner addressed the men, complimenting them on their work. Mir Wilson paid a high compliment to the 1 men regarding their smartness and discipline, stating that both he and they had good reason to be proud of themselves. Linked with the Infantry manoeuvres was work by the Ambulance section which followed the attacking patrol and expeditiously and efficiently handled the few casualties. No Parade There will be no parade on Sunday next, but during the next week an evening parade will be held, and from then on during the summer months members will gather on one evening in one week and on Saturday afternoon of the alternate week.
