FREE MEDICAL SERVICE WELL!
Living Down the Past The suggestion frequently made that men who have once been in gaol do not, get a chance to resume normal life again was denied by Mr Justice Fair when sentencing prisoners at Auckland. "People in New Zealand do not shun a man because he has had a bad record in the past," said His Honour. "My experience has been that the great majority are anxious to assist him as soon as he shows that he desires to live an honest life and. regain his place in the community."
THE Whakatane district is distinct with a southern area (Port Chalmers) in being the only centres where the Free Medical Service under the State Security Scheme has .been introduced without violent controversies, arguments and heated paper debates. Apparently we are enjoying quietly enough the full benefits of the scheme while the B.M.A.— Government war rages about our boundaries and prevents our less fortunate fellow-countrymen and women from appreciating the same privilege. As far as 1 we can glean, everybody seems satisfied, No fees are necessary to our local medicos, we are safely empanelled for the service, there is no confusion, worry or complaint. In fact from the public point of view it appears to be a huge success. Shall we tell fc the world? Well!
Air Force Band Collections As a collecting agency for patriotic funds the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band is undoubtedly a success. To date the' band has been responsible for raising more than £40,000 throughout New Zealand. The band collected more than £700 during its visit to Gisborne last week, later assisting the Napier patriotic authorities at the Spring Show its collators netted £236 10s. During the week-end the band was actively engaged on behalf of the Hastings Zone Patriotic Committee.
