STATISTICS AFTER TWO YEARS -• Statistics of recruiting and num.- i bers doing war service in the Dominion are given in the publication, released by the Director of Public, ity entitled "New Zealand's; War Effort." These key statistics aro quotes as follows:— ' Population of New Zealand 1,636,000 Men of military age .. .. 340,009 After two years of war the mobilisation of men and for national service is as follows:— y Active service overseas and training .. ... .. 80,000 v Home Defence not permanently mobilised (Home Guard, - Territorials and National , Military Reserve) .. .. 138,00(1 Civil defence units (Emer-, _. gency Precautions Scheme; and Women's War Service.' * - Auxiliary) 95,000 Total 313,000 ' After two years of the war ot « 1914-18 the total number on active. ' service overseas and in New Zealand was 65,000.
