THE WINTER SHOW
Rain Interrupts Shearing
Several farmers of the Matata district encouraged, by last week's bright weather had all arrangements completed to commence shearing at the week-end and flocks ! had been mustered and moved to the shed yards. However, the change of con. ditions on Friday found the sheep uncovered and with wool wet the work was in some cases postponed.
Rush For Stockings
TO their credit it can be said that the people of this district have warmly supported and patronised the Winter Show in spite of the mounting difficulties of the war years. In preserving and strengthening the Association they have thus performed a duty which will stand them in good stead during the more peaceful years that lie ahead. On Wednesday next the 13th annual meeting is due to take place in the Borough Council Chambers. A reminder to all members and others interested that their attendance is vital to the welfare of the Show, and its community value, is therefore timely and we appeal on the Show's behalf to all rightthinking citizens.
Some of the Whakatane gentle ses (although the gentleness is not too evident on these occasions) were seen scurrying to a well known drapery establishment on Friday it having been discovered that" a limited supply of silk stockings had arrived. Only those quickly off the mark wert "in the money," others finding that the stock had disappeared in a remarkably short space of time.
