COUNTRY LIBRARY SERVICE
HERE is a subject which would furnish a good theme for a Chamber of Commerce debate—or in case it has already been investigated —an address by a person qualified to set out the pros and cons. It is quite unnecessary for us to emphasise the nature of the Country Library Service, its educational value, its rotation of modern literature and its uplifting value for the community as a whole. The expense entailed is probably the most formidable barrier encountered by the Borough Council in the matter but, in other centres where the difficulties have arisen, they have been overcome and the library service established without undue financial strain upon the municipal funds. Whilst we appreciate the present library and recognise the splendid work of the committee, we feel that all its members would agree that were it possible to link up with the Government-spon-sored Country Service the loci institution would improve one hundred fold.
