THREAT TO SHOOT
RUATOKI MAORI GAOLED
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGE
The West Coast shooting sensation has had its reflections in this district it appears, a Maori' of Ruiatoki, not content with: beating his wife, having threatened to cut her throat, silioot her, and' also shoot any policeman who came to arrest him.
That is the disturbing news that Constable O. S. Ricc at Taneatua received when a badly battered Maori woman called at his station. She reported l that she had been assaulted! by her husband, who' had aggravated his offence by more violent threats. She pleaded with the constable to not venture near the house at Ruatoki.
A medical examination revealed that the woman had been brutally treated and Constable Rice set out to make an arrest which was accomplished alone without a great deal of difficulty.
As a result Mesrs Hay ward and Moody, J's.P'., at the Taneatua Court sent Dick Ata to Mount Eden gaol for two months.
