PIPE RELINING

REPAIRS TO WATER MAIN

ESSENTIAL BOROUGH WORK

The work of relining thirteen •chains of the water main in Commerce Street has been commenced t>y a firm, of contractors and should be completed this month. The method being used is known as the Tate process.

Commencing at the junction of 'Commerce Street and Domain Road the contractors, with brushes attached to a wire rope, first thoroughly clean the inside of the main and then, by an intricate process, piaster the inside of the pipes with a •coating of concrete, thus repairing the weaknesses which have developed in recent years and which threat, clied to cost the Borough large sums costs. /"The pipe line has had a life of about 20 years, which is considered the maximum, and although bursts -were becoming too frequent, is not in such a bad state as might have been possible. However, the work was very essential, and mepibers of the Borough Council after inspecting the nrocess yesterday agreed that to readily effect such repairs to the main was a very good investment for the Borough. The section of the main being processed is the worst in the Borough and considerable sums in maintenance costs will be saved.
