Road Estimated
The District Engineer, Tauranga, til so submitted a schedule 1 setting out the road votes that have been made available to the County for this financial year. The fact that an item appeared on the schedule did not indicate that authorisation would necessarily follow. So many works were put forward as urgent that carCful selection of those which are to take precedence for authorisation was essential in order to keep within the cash available. Where work could possible be deferred, application for authority ihould be withheld stated the letter, rn regard to this year's provisions the amount of the subsidy voted must be regarded as the maximum Government contribution, for any one item. Where the cost was less than the estimate, subsidy would be payable only on the actual cost, and wheie the cost was greater than the estimate, the suosidy would be limited to the amount voted. Proposals submitted must be supported by very] definite evidence that the proposed work was of major importance anc» would assist in increasing production. Whakatane County votes are as follows: — Kopcopco Drain Road, £90, £3 for £1. Kopuriki Stream Bridge, Te Teko, Galatea Road, £500, £1 for £1, on account . Rewatu Road Extension, £1000, £1 for £1. Wano's Road, £340, £1 for £1. It was resolved that proposals bo submitted to -the Public Works Department in regard to the three first mentioned grants and that the Acting-Engineer take action to complete Wano's Road at the first opportunity.
