SACKS WASTED
NEED FOR ALTERED
REGULATION
DISPOSAL OF MAIZE
At Wednesday's meeting of maize growers Mr H. C. McCready strongly criticised the regulations which permitted sacks of maize to weigh only 2001bs with the result that they were not full and resulted in a
waste which reverted to the producer. He claimed that sacks should be filled to the ears.
Mr A. H. Honeyfield, of the Internal Marketing Department, stated that labour laws prevented this as storemen and wharf labourers could not be asked to lift over 200 lbs. It would be useless to endeavour to have the alteration made, and lie continued to explain that the cost to the producer of the larger sack was not greater than the smaller one which was not available.
Mr McCready held that the regulations should be altered during the war, stating that every day farmers were having to lift greater weights than 2001bs.
Other speakers expressed the opinion that it was better to have a standard weight and then all concerned knew where they stood.
