WHAT CHANCE?

THERE'S NOTHING LIKE HOPING

OPTIMISTIC OHOPE

"The Ohope Ratepayers' and Progress League has asked me what •chance there is of having several •chains of road from the corner at the camping ground to Kennedy's store tar-sealed," began Cr H. G. McC'ready at this Aveek's meeting •of the County Council. The chairman: "Why didn't you tell them!— You must have known!" Another member: "I should say 'Buckley's-'!"' Cr McGreacly cointinued that he did not think the League realised the cost that would be involved and he wished the acting-engineer to pre. t>are an estimate so> that the League Would realise the difficulty. j It was stated by the clerk (Mr C. <x. Lucas) that the road was in a bad state when rain fell and could not cross because of water 'collected. That the dust nuisance nearby the parking and picnic grounds had prompted the League's request was explained by Gr MeCready, who stated that the road was in a very bad condition. Cr T. G. H. Cawte agreed that the road was very bad, but a great •expense would be incurred in put' ting it in order. Slips had from time to time aggravated the drainage and to properly correct this would entail tremendous expense. After some discussion it was decided that the acting-engineer prepare estimates for the tar-sealing and for a 4 foot culvert to carry the stream near the Captain's Cabin.
