GENERAL MEETING HELD

MRS ARMSTRONG FAREWEIXED

A general meeting of the Wha, katane Sub-centre o>f the Women's War Service Auxiliary was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, October 22. Mrs K. Armstrong presided over a good attendance of members. The financial statement showed a satisfactory balance.

Mrs Armstrong reported that the selection committee of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force had interviewed eight applicants the previous evening. Women and girls between the ages of 18 and 45 were urgently needed to fill positions at aerodromes in supply stores, clerical and mess. Full uniforms including shoes, hose and gloves were provided; shoe repaired; medical and dental treatment free; all sport facilities -were provided at Hobsonville. Accommodation would be ready in three months and wages were 24s per week. At T'auiranga there was no accom- , modation but midday meal was vided. Wages £2 4s per week. Should there be sufficient ciation the Selection Committee visit Whakatane again before Christ- 1 mas. Mrs Armstrong then handed in her resignation to the Auxiliary jtS-.-sJie was leaving the district". This was accepted with deep regret. Three nominations were received for chairwoman ?ind on a ballot being held Mrs Dallas was elected. Mrs Jarrett, on behalf of the Auxiliary, presented . Mrs Armstrong with a beautilful bouquet and asked her to accept a crystal water set in recognition of all the work sjhei ___ had done, and wished her the of luck in her new home. Mrs Armstrong in replying said she knew she would miss the Auxiliary for more*than it would miss her* and wished the new •chairwoman an& the Auxiliary every success in all its activities.
