INCREASE IN PRODUCTION' ■— ALL EX POUTS — W In a booklet "New Zealand's War Effort" issued by the Director of Publicity, some interesting information is given regarding the Dominion's returns for the first two years of Avar. Under the heading "What the Farmers are Doing," the following figures are given:— Farmers are producing food and raw materials for Great Britain to the utmost limits of shipping space. Cheese graded for export increased from 81,000 tons to 119,000 tons in two years, or 46 per cent. The aim for this season is 160,000 tons. Butter graded for export increased in two: years from 122,000 tons to 139,000 tons, despite the extensive change-over to cheese. - — Meat killings for export showed an increase from 297,000 tons to 347,000 tons in the first year of the war,'an increase of 17 per cent. Wool. —All the New Zealand wool for export is sotld to Great Britain. There were 888,000 bales produced in 1940 and 940,000 bales in 1941. Linen Flax.—This is a new crop in New Zealand grown for British war needs. This year 25,000 acres have been sown, and 17 processing factories have been built. The new industry promises to become a permanent | one. New Zealand's total exports in 1940 were valued at £73,700,000, the highest ever recorded, and an increase of £15,000,000 over the figure for 1939.
