THE WHAKATANE CLUB

WEEK-END EVENT

The Gth Annual Tournament of the Whakatane Golf Club proved a large success with an attendance of 68 competitors including 36 visitors. Clubs represented were Gisborne, Rotorua, Opotiki, Tauranga, Putaruru, Te Puke, Waimana, Taneatua, Waitcmata and Mokorua.

Apart from a severe hailstorm during the qualifying round on Saturday afternoon excellent AA r eathcr was experienced. The course Avas in excellent order. In fact, it has neA 7 er been better and all visitors were highl3* complimentary in their remarks on the high qu,alit3' of the links. The services of the lady members of the club AYcre highly appreciated and the excellent arrangements made by them contributed in no small measure to the success of the tourhament. Results of the \*arious co'mpetitions Avere as under:— Best Gross Score: Bailey (Rotorua) 75. Runner-up: J. Anderson (Rotorua) 81.

Best Nett Score: Bailey (Rotorua) 75—2—73. Runners-up: Butler (Wha katane) 58—15—73, Littlejohn (Whakatane) 91-—18 —73. Butler Avas placed second on the count back.

Sunday Miorning Bogey Handicap: L. B. Stuart (Putaruru). Runnerup: Harrison (Gisborne).

Sunday Afternoon Bogey Handicap: F. Burke (Waimana).. Runnerup: C. Bailey (Rotorua).

Monday Morning: Best Ball Bogey: Mortenscn (Tc Puke) and Grey (Whakatane). Runner-up: Stuart (Putaruru) and Edwards (Gisborne') Monday Afternoon Stableford Bog, cy: Edwards (Gisborne). Runnerup: A. G. Anderson (Whakatane).

First Flight Consolation: F. Burke (Waimana) .
